Flood Levels

Our beach and fire pit under 3 feet of water due to minor flooding in Burke County.
No burning for a bit

The Upper Catawba River Basin is experiencing significant runoff from the recent rainfall. Lake James is spilling but not expected to exceed 102.0 ft. Lake Rhodhiss is also spilling but not expected to exceed 102.5 ft. Duke Energy operators will make gate adjustments at Oxford Hydro Station as needed for lake level management. Lookout Shoals Lake is spilling but is not expected to exceed 103 ft. We will continue to closely monitor lake levels and operate the system to reduce impacts. Please stay alert to changing conditions, as additional rainfall could lead to higher lake levels.

Duke energy lake level graph for the last week.
Current Lake Levels as of 4/24/18 almost 2 feet above flood level.

Lake living sometimes is serious business. Our beach is under water and our sweet neighbor moved our chairs and canoe up to higher ground. Mountain living is not for the weak. Learn something new everyday.

Lake James flood levels this morning as the lake rose almost 2 feet overnight.
What beach? There is usually 4 feet under the pier before the water.
