Where does the Number One team stay when they have a Dragon Boat race? Our most recent guest Carol and part of the team stayed at the Life is Good Cabin! Wait did she say Dragon Boat?!? Yup. Life is always interesting here on the lake. We have Dragon Boat races. What is that you ask? Good question.
Dragon Boating is born of a legend. With a history of more than 2,500 years, the sport originated in ancient China. The legends include warring states, radical politics and fierce loyalty and passion written poetically by one man - Qu Yuan. This man was exiled from the land that he loved, and in turn committed suicide in the Miluo River in a final form of protest against the corruption of his era. During an attempt to save Qu Yuan, the locals took to the river in their fishing boats, splashing their paddles to keep the water demons and evil spirits away.
Fast forward 2,500 years and this sport welcomes all. Anyone can race. The teams are 20 people in 2 rows of ten paddling. One drummer to keep everyone in line and a steer person with an 9 foot oar for a straight line down the course.
Want to know more, stay at the Life is Good cabin and be minutes away from all the action next year at Paddy's Creek. Who knows maybe you'll join.
From our Guest: " Also, we took 1st place in the cancer boat race yesterday!!! We are the CHEMO-KAZE Dragons! It was sooooo much fun and it took about 5 minutes to get to Paddys Creek! It's been a fabulous trip!!!" Carol
